MARCH 2017 Happenings
This month's theme is leadership!
Our workbook for the month is now ready to be downloaded, and on March 20th from 7:00-8:00pm EST for "Everyday Leadership for Every Military Spouse" with Elizabeth Boardman!
For our bookworms: we are learning why the world needs more military spouse leaders. March's read: Tribes, by a thought leader we adore, Seth Godin. The virtual book club discussion will take place via Zoom video chat, and has been scheduled for Thursday March 23rd from 3pm-4pm EST. Sign up.
We are three months away from the beginning of Military Spouse Appreciation Month! As an organization, we have a few initiatives in the works and a our first ever fundraiser planned. We will need your help to make it happen.
One of the initiatives is a new awareness campaign, launching May 2017. We want to showcase all of our amazing Milspos and reveal what it really means to be a military spouse in every branch. The campaign will be called “What Does a #MILSPO look like?”.
***Shout out to the Southern Pines + Wilmington chapter leaders for already scheduling their photo shoots***
Each ad will spotlight one Milspo with their spouse and family, if you wish, at the front of the family juggling all that our crazy, beautiful lives throw at us!
We want to show the heroes behind the heroes, the other side of service, and celebrate YOU! Learn more about how to get your entire chapter involved, or be featured.
Also in May, we will be hosting our first ever live fundraiser, our Military Spouse Honor Auction on May 12, 2017 in Wilmington, NC, happening at Bakery 105. We would be thrilled to have you attend. Will you donate a product or service to be auctioned? All funds raised support Milspo Project programs. Email Liz Marion, at email@example.com for more info.
At the Honor Auction, we want to showcase all of our chapter leaders and members. At your next meet up, will you take a horizontal cell phone video (nothing fancy), of the group? What to include: where your chapter is located, and one thing you love about Milspo Project or the military spouse community as a whole. Please send it to Ashley at firstname.lastname@example.org by April 25th.
All of you should have access to your Area-Member Email List by now. If not, please reach out to Ashley directly. We are asking all chapter leaders to send out a welcome email to all new members in their area, and email the group once a month with the meeting time and location. After speaking with some of our newest paid members, we realized many of our military spouse leaders aren't active on Facebook. Email seems like the next best option at this time. We want to make sure we are reaching out to those who are looking to integrate into a new community after a PCS or starting a business. Thank you for being the local welcome wagon on behalf of Milspo Project.
May military spouses everywhere find happiness and fulfillment. Thank you for being the torchbearers who light the way!
MArch 2017 WORKBOOK: Attitude
Before your next meet up, remember to remind your members to fill out the workbook before they arrive. The meet ups are built on peer accountability and growth, so members should come prepared to work through roadblocks that came up during the goal-setting process.
The "theme of the month" portion of the work book is meant to help you facilitate group discussion. It is not a platform for chapter leaders to teach, but instead a way for the group to grow from shared experiences. If your members want to do a deeper dive on the topic, please encourage them to sign up for our workshops and virtual book club.
When was the last time you found yourself in a leadership role? Our guess is that leadership actually comes naturally to you as a military spouse, even if you don’t self-identify as a leader.
At Milspo Project we believe military spouses are uniquely qualified to step up and fill the leadership void our society is facing, which is why we decided to make Tribes, a book about leadership by Seth Godin, our March 2017 #MilsposRead.
Chapter Meet Up After-Action Report
