Name: Nichol Flemister

Business Name/Occupation: Resume Writing

Tell us about your business! My goal is to create my own resume writing business. Currently, I do this service for free for all career levels. I also write cover letters, thank you letters and reference pages. I am also the go to person for anyone needing advice on writing a paper or business letter.

Why did you choose entrepreneurship? I have worked a traditional job with set limits and it doesn't fit my family's life style. Although we are lucky enough to not have to move anywhere, my husband is honestly always gone for training for the military. That leaves everything inside and outside the outside, kids activities, and my sanity up to me; being able to create my own schedule allows the flexibility for all of this to happen plus emergencies and just free time. Plus I can not imagine working for anyone else right now. My boss is my husband and myself and we like that.

Why do military spouses make great entrepreneurs? Because we ROCK! No seriously our drive to keep our families moving forward is indescribable. And because even though our plates are already full, we have this need to fill our creative side usually through entrepreneurship. Plus in our world of strict rules, codes of conduct, yucky blue, green, gray, tan attire, and white/off white walls; we the spouses bring the bright color.

What is a "blocker" for you in business. What holds you back? Right now, it is just myself. I can gain all the experience I need I just have to put myself out there more and believe in myself. It's just this type of business is very personal and failure is huge, I hate failure.

How has being a military spouse changed your for the better? I went from being a soldier to a veteran to a military spouse which is a "about face" side of the military. I am a small fish in the big ocean of military spouses, just learning about all the support that is available. So far I am being pushed to grab a hold of my dreams and shake them which is a good thing.

What strengths do you possess, that you did not know you had, until you became an entrepreneur? I have always known when it came to attention to detail in resumes I was attentive, I didn't realize I was that retentive though. Which is totally funny to me.

What would you tell a milspo entrepreneur who is feeling discouraged? Just try, you never know until you try. Read! Reading will open doors that you think are closed for you.

What are your five favorite things that you can not live without as a milspo entrepreneur?

  • God's Promises for every day (amazing book fits in my purse)
  • Do It All MOM Planner (I write everything down)
  • Phone (communication yes, music mostly lol)
  • Computer (love my touchscreen computer)
  • Caffeine (coffee mainly)

What is the most amazing thing you have experienced in your business thus far? How appreciative people are, I love resumes so it is interesting to me that people don't like writing their own resumes. I compare that to my fear of spiders and how pest control people are so adamant about not killing insects (sometimes).

How do you want to be remembered?: Hard worker
